Lord Shiva is honoured during the month of Shravan in the Hindu calendar. The entire month is regarded as lucky for requesting Lord Shiva's grace. During the Shravan month, devotees observe a variety of fasts to appease Lord Shiva. In North Indian states, the month of Shravan is also referred to as Sawan month. All Mondays or Somwar(s) that fall in the month of Shravan are known as Shravan Somwar or Sawan Somwar Vrats and are seen to be extremely auspicious for fasting.
